The Families in British India Society (FIBIS) is hosting its annual conference, a key event for those researching family history in the Indian subcontinent during the British period, approximately from 1600 to 1947. FIBIS, founded as a charity in 1998, is the leading organisation supporting genealogical research into British and Anglo-Indian ancestors and their lives in British India and surrounding regions.

The FIBIS database provides invaluable resources covering not only pre-1947 India and modern-day Pakistan but also other related areas such as Burma (now Myanmar), St. Helena, the Straits Settlements (including Singapore and Penang), and even regions like Persia (now Iran), the Gulf, and China, which were historically connected to British India.

This three-day event will feature a diverse range of speakers, including academics, professional genealogists, authors, and historians, offering attendees the opportunity to gain insights into various aspects of British India’s historical and genealogical landscape. Participants will also be able to book one-on-one sessions with experts, seek advice on challenging research issues, and network with other genealogy enthusiasts.
