The Arkansas State Archives, in collaboration with the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA), has excitedly announced an opportunity for family history enthusiasts: “Genealogy After Hours.”

This event, designed for both novice and experienced researchers, will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives, located at 201 Hwy 195 S., Washington, AR. Check-in will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Genealogy After Hours aims to enhance participants’ genealogical research skills and deepen their understanding of the resources available at SARA for researching family histories specific to southwest Arkansas. The event will be led by Melissa Nesbitt, Archival Manager of SARA, who will provide guidance and share expert tips on how to begin or advance genealogical research.

For those new to genealogy, it is recommended to bring vital records information, including names, birth and death dates and places, and marriage dates and places for themselves, their parents, and grandparents. This foundational data will serve as a crucial starting point for research during the event.

The event is limited to 15 participants to ensure personalized assistance and a focused learning environment. As space is limited, interested individuals must register by June 21, 2024.

Genealogy After Hours is a great opportunity for family history researchers to access specialized resources and gain insights from an experienced archivist. Attendees will benefit from a structured yet informal setting, making it an ideal occasion for networking and sharing knowledge with fellow genealogy enthusiasts.
