In the latest episode of the podcast series From The Library With Love, host Kate Thompson sits down with 92-year-old Holocaust survivor Ivor Perl. Titled “The Kapo at Auschwitz told me, ‘Forget that number and you don’t exist,’”, this episode delves into Ivor’s harrowing experiences and the remarkable life he built afterwards.
At just 12 years old, Ivor was taken to Auschwitz, where he survived with the help of his older brother. Tragically, the rest of his family perished in the Holocaust. For decades, Ivor kept his past buried, but eventually, the weight of his memories compelled him to speak out.
Ivor’s journey is also chronicled in his book, Chicken Soup Under the Tree, which provides deeper insight into his extraordinary life.
Join Kate Thompson as she visits Ivor in his London home, discovering a man who, despite his traumatic past, radiates warmth, curiosity, and intelligence.
